Diversity is an overriding theme when mapping Africa; this is also the case with the provision of merchant services — from Egypt in the north to the highly developed and largest economy in the region: South Africa. In some countries, such as Kenya, Nigeria and Tunisia, less than one percent of adults own a credit card. Only in South Africa does credit card penetration reach levels seen in more advanced markets of the world.
